Pain Management

Pain Management Through Ayurveda

Ayurveda can be a useful part of a comprehensive pain-management plan, especially for certain types of chronic musculoskeletal pain, such as knee pain, low back pain, neck stiffness and osteoarthritis. The best approach is to identify the cause of pain, select an appropriate treatment, and measure improvement over time rather than relying on oil massage or pain-relief medicines alone.

Abhyanga — therapeutic oil application Traditionally used to relieve muscular tension, stiffness and discomfort. Oil selection and massage intensity should be adapted to the patient and condition. Avoid forceful massage over acute injuries, swollen joints or suspected fractures.

Kati Basti and other localized therapies Kati Basti applies warm oil to the lower-back region. Similar localized treatments may be used for selected joint or neck complaints. They may provide temporary comfort, but evidence that they treat the underlying cause is limited.
